EMDR Training for Professionals

More and more mental health professionals are recognizing the depth of impact that trauma plays on the psyche and the physical body.  Trauma impacts the autonomic nervous system,  behavioral patterns, relationships, and so much more.  The complete neurobiological impact is difficult to fully comprehend.

Some fantastic reading materials to help grasp the profound impact of trauma include:

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD

In an Unspoken Voice: How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness by Peter Levine, PhD

The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-Regulation by Stephen Porges, PhD

When the Body Says No: Exploring the Stress-Disease Connection by Gabor Mate, MD

If you are already familiar with and sensitive to the impacts of trauma, you may be interested in studying to receive your EMDR certification.  EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.  This technique is proven to heal trauma in the mind and in the body, and it is administered by a trained mental health professional.

Focus Integrative Centers is hosting an EMDR training in August, 2018.  This training will be offered by the Personal Transformation Institute.  EMDR Basic Training with the Personal Transformation Institute, meets and exceeds the EMDRIA requirements. The complete training includes 10 hours of consultation. Other trainings offer only 1 part at a time and do not include the cost of consultation in the total training package.

The 2 three day training periods cover the Adaptive Information Processing Model, the 8 Phase EMDR Therapy treatment approach, including adaptations for working with Children, Recent Trauma, Dissociation, Pain and Addictions and other specialties depending on the needs of the participants.

This training is informed by attachment and somatic therapies.

Due to the intensity of trauma training, resources are taught and experienced throughout the training process as a way to keep participants engaged and emotionally regulated. These resources include somatic and attachment informed methods that are especially helpful in working with traumatized clients. By making the training safe, complex ideas simple and the atmosphere as fun as possible, the learning experience is optimized.

Our mission is to offer the most cutting edge, effective EMDR trainings with a foundation of attachment and somatic psychology theories. The trainings will not only teach the concepts, but also demonstrate the foundational principles of effective therapy:

  • Nonviolence
  • Respect
  • Compassion
  • Healthy boundaries
  • Self awareness

By applying the concepts to self before clients, the therapist has an opportunity to learn in a full- bodied, experiential way that invites deeper understanding and insight. This makes this training powerful and transformative as well as daunting for those who have unresolved past experiences. This experiential aspect of the training is essential to effectively learning the AIP model as well as required by EMDRIA, our professional organization.

Support before, during and after the training is provided by giving the clinician access to training videos on trauma, the actual training and demonstrations of EMDR sessions. In addition to this comprehensive support through the website, an email group is available for discussion and questions

Another important aspect of our training model is the seamless opportunity for continuing toward EMDRIA certification. Those who wish to continue a deeper understanding of EMDR with an attachment and somatic focus can move forward with our Advanced Certification Package.

We also offer a full progression of continued development to becoming an EMDRIA Approved Consultant/ PTI training assistant and potentially a PTI trainer.
